24M-VS - Baru-nut Superfood from Local Families in the Brazilian Cerrado to the Danish Consumers - Brazil

About this project

The project objective is to reduce climate vulnerability of small-scale producer families by strengthening inclusive socio-economic activities, income growth and improved livelihoods. The wider effects of the value chain locally will be; by creating access to the EU market increasing attention for the value chain possibilities of non-timber forest products from natural and rural areas as well as the effects of the nature preservation with positive climate adaptation and mitigation effect, thereby setting an example for how business/income generation and nature preservation can go hand in hand. The business model is presented for the specific activity in the project – not necessarily for the whole company. Baru nuts will be a novelty in the nut market in Denmark and Europe.. Biogan will focus on importing the Baru nuts directly from the cooperative in Brazil. In this way it is possible to pay a fair price to the growers and still be able to position the nuts in the market at the same level as other speciality nuts. The planned distribution channels for the introduction are health food shops, organic shops and other specialized shops. Biogan also have to build up awareness among consumers via social media and public relation activities.
