About this project
The overall objective of the Project is to strengthen Ethiopia’s trade efficiency and connectivity by expanding and modernizing the Indode Railway Freight Yard in Addis Ababa into a resilient, multimodal and environmentally sustainable logistical hub. At impact level, Denmark’s contribution will reduce CO2 emissions and road deterioration by shifting from road (diesel trucks) to rail (electrical railway); enhance productivity and access to markets for farmers in Ethiopia; generate employment and; promote economic integration on the Horn of Africa - thereby contributing to socio-economic growth and poverty reduction in a region heavily challenged by climate change, instability, displacement and humanitarian emergencies. The Project aligns well with the overall vision for Denmark’s engagement in Ethiopia today as defined in the Denmark-Ethiopia Strategic Framework 2025-2029, namely to improve resilience, green development and stability in Ethiopia. The Project and its potential impact for farmers in Ethiopia is also well aligned with Denmark’s ongoing support to Ethiopias agricultural sector through the Agricultural Transformation Institute’s Agricultural Commercialization through Climate-smart and Inclusive Initiatives (ACCII) programme.
