About this project

The objective is to raise awareness about climate change and green energy solutions amongst children and youth in Algeria through art. By partnering with UNDP Algeria and collaborating with the Wilaya (municipality) of Algiers and the Danish graffiti artist, Eske Touborg, as well as local artists, the project aims to create a dynamic, captivating and thought-provoking mural in the capital of Africa’s biggest country, Algiers, around the theme of Green Energy, in the fields of wind and water, where Algeria has enormous potential as well as scarcity and management challenges. The project will involve local schools through a series of workshops fostering creative skills in graffiti art and raising awareness about climate change and green energy. Selected youth participants may be invited to collaborate with the artists in designing or painting the mural, strengthening their engagement and providing a visible, lasting outcome for their involvement. The project will serve as a pioneering initiative by leveraging art as a transformative tool for behavioural change and civic engagement and by bridging cultural diplomacy, education, and sustainable development. Beyond raising awareness, the mural and the awareness raising campaigns will act as a living platform for dialogue on climate action, inspiring communities to embrace sustainable practices and positioning Algiers as a regional hub for innovative cultural responses to global challenges.
