Nature-conscious adaptation: Synthesis of approaches that integrate biodiversity into climate adaptation

About this project

Drawing on experiences from current programming, this project will expand a common focus on nature-based solutions, which centre on a specific set of climate adaptation practices. By integrating biodiversity, equity and climate adaptation into a single framework, it will introduce a broader way of thinking about climate adaptation, focusing on how healthy and diverse natural systems can help reduce climate risks. The project is embedded in an initiative that focuses on equitable climate adaptation pathways for coastal communities, integrating marine science with geospatial and social research. This will strengthen the project outcomes, helping to enhance understanding of biodiversity as a core benefit to adaptation. The project will also synthesize and share findings on this theme from other climate adaptation and resilience projects. This project is funded under Climate Adaptation and Resilience, a United Kingdom-Canada flagship research program designed to enable socially inclusive, evidence-based climate adaptation and resilience in the Global South, with a strong focus on Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
