About this project

Bahari Maisha initiative aims to strengthen the governance of the marine and coastal environment including local communities to become vital stewards of the three habitats of mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass which are backbone of the global ocean economy. This will involve the development of a marine spatial plan for Zanzibar and support the diversification of livelihood opportunities in coastal communities through the development of sustainable, gender responsive and socially inclusive eco-tourism livelihood opportunities that directly link with the health of the core coastal habitats.
