Water for Development (W4D): Support to mountain sustainable development and adaptation policies

About this project

The project aims to increase the climate adaptation and resilience of Gilgit Baltistan Province- – which is one of the most fragile in the country from an ecosystem perspective – in order to contribute to the promotion of sustainable and inclusive development in mountainous regions. Despite the high vulnerability to climate change-related risks and the existing national policy and strategy framework, there are still important scientific and technological gaps in the country that do not allow an appropriate definition and management of environmental risk prevention systems, as well as the effective and evidence-based implementation of policies and strategies for sustainable management of natural resources. To meet the challenges of climate change the institutional and community capacity to safeguard the ecosystems and to manage natural resources, especially water resources as determinants of development, has to be increased.
