About this project

In Cuba, the Climate Promise 2025 will play a crucial role in helping the country meet its NDCs. The project will focus on several key outputs to achieve this goal. Firstly, a National Strategy for increasing climate finance access will be developed, identifying gaps and barriers in the national financial ecosystem and creating a roadmap for Cubas integration into carbon markets. This strategy will also include the development of financing mechanisms for a just energy transition.Secondly, the project will facilitate consultation workshops with various economic sectors, local actors, civil society, and the private sector to update the NDCs. These workshops will promote a gender-sensitive approach to ensure inclusivity. Additionally, a report on the potential for blue carbon removal in Cuba will be prepared to inform the NDC update, providing the government with essential information on the best use of natural capital associated with coastal and marine ecosystems.Furthermore, a long-term Climate Action Plan for 2050 will be drafted, outlining adaptation and mitigation actions. An informed gender analysis will be conducted to investigate womens roles in key sectors and identify opportunities to foster womens leadership and economic empowerment. Lastly, a communications strategy will be implemented to increase awareness and sensitization of the NDCs, focusing on climate change adaptation, mitigation, environmental pollution, and the circular economy.
