Second National Climate Resilience Project (NCRP2)

About this project

In support of the Government of Malawi’s (GoM) ongoing adaptation and resilience building efforts, UNDP and the Environmental Affairs Department (EAD) have collaborated on the development of the Second National Climate Resilience Project ‘NCRP2’ — a policy-level project aimed at continuing the legacy of the original ‘NCRP1’. NCRP2 addresses a significant development challenge in Malawi, namely the limited systemic impact of resilience-building efforts in climate change (CC) and environmental and natural resource management (ENRM). Despite Malawi’s robust policy environment for CC and ENRM, systemic impact from the operationalisation of these policies has been slow, complicating the country’s goal of sustainable, climate-resilient economic growth as described in Malawi 2063 Vision, the country’s overarching development agenda. Three thematic areas have emerged that contribute to the limited systemic operationalisation of CC and ENRM policy frameworks in Malawi:
