About this project
The project contributes to UNSDCF Outcome 3/UNDP Outcome 2 by introducing and promoting efficient plastic waste management that will in turn contribute to enhancing community resilience to disaster risks caused by climate change. The project interventions will reduce plastic pollution and mitigates aggravation of disaster impacts (i.e., intensified floods in urban areas due to clogging of drainage systems), as well as reducing threats to environment such as biodiversity, especially fauna, contamination of environment with microplastics etc. By developing and implementing gender-sensitive, pro-poor strategies for plastic waste management, the project ensures that vulnerable communities benefit from strengthened livelihoods and increased incomes. The dissemination of lessons learned and best practices across all local authorities in Sri Lanka further supports sustainable natural resource management and biodiversity conservation. By sharing innovative practices, the project aligns with CPD Output 2.1 and 2.3, contributing to local level green growth while addressing the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of plastic waste management.
