About this project

The Project supports Viet Nam in addressing its plastic problem through several key interventions. The National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) platform will facilitate stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, and innovation scaling to promote plastic action. A scheme will be implemented across three fishing ports to encourage 500 fishing boats and 2,500 fishermen to bring plastic waste back to shore for collection and recycling, aiming to collect 7,000 tons of plastic waste in three years. The initiative also includes piloting harmonized responsible sourcing to improve the working conditions and livelihoods of 750 informal waste workers, conducting national and regional dialogues on best practices, and supporting six innovative local solutions to plastic pollution. Finally, technical guidelines and behavior change campaigns in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will support the implementation of mandatory waste sorting at source, with at least ten districts in Hanoi and seven in Ho Chi Minh City participating, and an expected 10,000 tons of recyclables directed to material recovery facilities.
