About this project
This is the fourth Project (P4) of the Country Pilot Partnership (CPP) Supporting lmplementation of the Cuban National Programme to Combat Desertification and Drought . The Projects main objective is to validate the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) models that have demonstrated effectiveness in the three previous CPP-OPlS projects, at the landscape scale.Project 4 actions will focus on selected pilot areas of the Cauto River Basin and Guantanamo-Guaso Basin (see Annexes 3 and 15 of UNDP Prodoc), and the results will be applicable throughout the country. At both sites, the Project proposes the implementation of best SLM practices, already applied in the 4 previous CPP projects, in dry forest bioclimatic area and transition zones within these intervention areas, based on landscape criteria. The Project aims to strengthen the capacity of the country to adopt SLM LS approach at national and local level, and to foster the provision of ecosystem services in agricultura! landscapes to enhance population welfare and food security. Beneficiaries include mainly producers, particularly women, but also institutional stakeholders, ministries staff, as well as those who are directly and indirectly assisted by other associated projects in the country.
