About this project
The project’s objective is to strengthen sustainable development within the Shuar communities of the Sevilla Don Bosco Association by improving market conditions for aja (the Shuar agroforestry system) products, promoting sustainable livestock practices, and restoring forests along the Yuquipa River to diversify income sources. This will be achieved with a focus on gender equality, the preservation of Shuar ancestral knowledge, and the conservation of forest ecosystems. The project strategy is organized around three main implementation axes:I. Trade Enhancement: Strengthen the Association’s Market called NUNKUI, its organization, promotion, and the sustainable management of aja products from the Shuar bioeconomy. II. Interculturality and Gender: Implement an integrated program to revitalize knowledge management in forest conservation and preserve Shuar ancestral knowledge; and establish a community protocol for gender-based violence prevention, adapted with cultural relevance to the Shuar nationality.III. Sustainable Production, Forest Conservation, and Restoration: Enhance installed capacities and investments to create efficient livestock production systems that conserve the forest; restore riverbanks along the Yuquipa River within Shuar territory.
