About this project

The project objective is to promote sustainable use of wetland resources by local communities to conserve globally significant biodiversity, improve ecosystem services and secure local livelihoods in Tanguar Haor. This is attributed to habitat degradation and fragmentation caused by expanding human settlement and agriculture, changes in hydrological regime caused by changes in land use patterns, pollution from discharge of effluents, dumping of waste, agro-chemicals and erosion of soil, over-exploitation and other unsustainable uses of natural resources, unplanned tourism, invasive alien species, particularly the introduction of exotic species of fishes and climate change impacts. The project is thus aimed at addressing these multiple threats by harmonizing socio-economic development, sustainable management of land and water resources and biodiversity conservation through an integrated ecosystem-based management approach in the wetland. To achieve this, actions will be taken to strengthen capacity and coordinated planning at the national and sub-national levels on socio-economic development as well as demonstrate sustainable fisheries, agriculture and natural resources management, biodiversity conservation and restoration, and…
