About this project

The Maldives is an ocean state with a population of 515,132 people spread across over 187 small islands. The country is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The frequency and severity of extreme weather hazards have been increasing, leading to recurring and severe monsoonal flooding, coastal erosion, flooding due to sea surges in the islands, and longer dry periods resulting in water shortages. The limited functionality of existing weather stations has diminished the ability of the Maldives Meteorological Services (MMS) to provide timely, accurate weather and alerting information for public and private users.
