About this project
As Party to the Montreal Protocol, India is mandated to phase-out substances controlled under the Montreal Protocol. The Multilateral Fund (MLF) is the financial mechanism of the Montreal Protocol, established under Article 10 of the Montreal Protocol. The MLF, through its Executive Committee (ExCom), provides funding in the form of grant to Parties operating under Article 5 of the Montreal Protocol (developing countries) for meeting the compliance obligations of the Montreal protocol. India, being an Article-5 Party, is entitled to receive funding from the MLF.The Executive Committee (ExCom) of the MLF in its 93rd meeting held in December 2023 approved funding for the following two Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) demonstration projects, to be implemented from 2024 to 2026.a. Technology conversion to R-290 in two commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturing lines at Rockwell Industries limited and achieve of phase-out 21.91 MT of HFC-134a including technical assistance for enhancing energy efficiency resulting in net direct CO2-equivalent emission reductions of about 31,328 tons.b. Technology conversion to R-32 in one manufacturing line of packaged air-conditioning and ducted air-conditioning units of varying cooling capacities at Voltas Limited and achieve phase out of 30.29 MT of R-407C and 4.63 MT of R-410A, resulting in net direct CO2-equivalent emission reductions of about 63,383 tons.
