About this project

Vlasina Pure Love - Powered by Nature, Nurtured by Community project aims to advance the sustainable management of the protected areas, Landscapes of Outstanding Features (LOFs) Vlasina and Vardenik through a series of activities that include biodiversity research and protection, restoration of wetlands, and promotion of sustainable tourism. The project builds on the success of the “Vlasina Pure Love” initiative and continues the partnership between UNDP, the Municipality of Surdulica, the Tourist Organization of Surdulica, and the company Coca-Cola HBC Srbija in the broader Vlasina area. The project’s goal will be achieved through activities that are grouped in three pillars: 1) applied field research to monitor and protect endangered species such as brown bear, dormouse, and round-leaved sundew; 2) restoration of transitional wetlands and stabilization of eroded shorelines, including reforestation with native trees and planting of herbaceous species typical of wet meadows; and 3) the development of sustainable local tourism and tourist infrastructure through the renovation and digitization of 40 km of hiking trails, including a dedicated educational trail.
