About this project

The project aims to integrate biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, and nature-based solutions within two key landscapes across different administrative levels in the country with the objective of introducing nature-based solutions to ensure resilient ecosystems, green recovery and sustainable livelihoods. This endeavor will be executed through the implementation of a multi-sectoral spatial planning approach that connects natural ecosystems (forests, wetlands, and watersheds) with managed sectors (agriculture, forestry, and tourism) to ensure ecological balance and sustainable socio-economic development. The project will be implemented through five interrelated components, namely:1. Enabling framework: to strengthen and safeguard biodiversity conservation and combat land degradation 2. Enhanced landscape management: to improve the management effectiveness of ecosystems, including protected areas, key biodiversity areas (KBAs) and assess the potential for introduction of the concept of Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) as part of a broader national effort to manage and protect BiH’s biodiversity and critical ecosystems and support the governments‘ international obligations. 3. Strengthening capacity for monitoring Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) indicators: developing protocols for monitoring soil carbon content, land productive dynamics and land use and practical guidelines developed to promote/mainstream SLM in the agriculture,…
