About this project

The GBFF Project Preparation Grant (PPG) is to develop the project concept into a full project for establishing and protecting major river buffer zones in Vanuatu. This initiative aims to enhance the ecological health and sustainability of the Jordan, Brenwe, Talise, Sarakata, and Melsisi rivers through improved governance, the establishment of effective river buffer zones, and community engagement in water resource management, ensuring their protection and restoration for current and future generations. It will assist Vanuatu by implementing four key components—enabling spatial planning and restoration priority setting for river buffer zone conservation and management, establishing river buffer zones and other area-based measures to safeguard biodiversity and water resources, developing financial solutions for conservation and management, and knowledge management with capacity building—complemented by allocations for monitoring and evaluation as well as project management. The PPG phase requires consultation of specified background documents and GEF/UNDP/GBFF policies, culminating in the final outputs of a UNDP-GEF Project Document (ProDoc) with mandatory annexes, the GBFF CEO Endorsement Request, and the Validation Workshop report.
