About this project
Brazil has advanced its climate and forest agenda, but subnational jurisdictions still face institutional, technical, and regulatory barriers to implementing high-integrity jurisdictional REDD+ programs at scale. These gaps limit access to sustainable, results-based forest finance and weaken safeguards, governance, and credibility. Between 2026 and 2029, UNDP, with support from NICFI, will provide targeted technical assistance to strengthen state-level readiness for J-REDD+ implementation aligned with ART/TREES and national systems. The project focuses on compliance with high-integrity standards, effective social and environmental safeguards, and strengthened capacities of political leaders, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and technical staff. Together, these results support forest conservation, biodiversity protection, and Brazil’s climate commitments through credible participation in international carbon markets.
