About this project
The use of single-use plastics (SUPs) has rapidly accelerated in Cambodia, particularly in the food and beverage (F&B) and tourism sectors, resulting in negative impacts on human health, the environment, and the economy. The Royal Government of Cambodia has developed various policies and strategies to support a circular economy (CE). However, their implementation is hindered by a lack of enforceable regulations, financial instruments, capacity, and public awareness. To address these challenges, the project aims to catalyze CE approaches by: i) Strengthening the regulatory environment through policies and standards, ii) Mobilizing finance and engaging the private sector for innovation, iii) Promoting behavioural change among consumers and businesses, and iv) Ensuring national coordination and knowledge sharing. Target provinces include Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Preah Sihanouk for interventions in the hospitality, tourism, and F&B sectors. The project will attain the following four (4) project components: ? Project Component 1: Enabling a regulatory and policy environment; ? Project Component 2: Engagement of the F&B sector for innovation and mobilization of finance for CE measures; ? Project Component 3: Promotion of behavior and social change towards CE solutions among citizens and the F&B private sector andnd tourism industries ; ? Project Component 4: National and programme-level coordination, knowledge management and communication.
