About this project
This project seeks to strengthen Ecuador’s capacity for upstream prevention of zoonotic diseases through fourinterventions: 1) improving understanding of the links between biodiversity loss, climate change, and health; 2)operationalizing nature-based solutions; 3) establishing a specialized wildlife surveillance system within theMinistry of Environment and Energy (MAE) and 4) establishing an integrated epidemiological surveillance systemcoordinated among MAE, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), and Agrocalidad (the agency responsible foragricultural quality, regulating and controlling animal health, plant health, and food safety). These interventionsaim to prevent zoonotic diseases and future pandemics by acting on environmental and interface-level risksbefore they spill over into human populations.
