About this project

Nature for Health (N4H) Ghana aims to address the root environmental and socio-ecological factors that contribute to the emergence and spread of zoonotic diseases, strengthening the environmental dimension of the One Health approach in Ghana through upstream prevention. During a six-month scoping stage, opportunities and challenges to upstream zoonotic spillover prevention were identified using a systems thinking approach. After the scoping stage, additional consultations from the government of Ghana, and implementing partners, UNDP, IUCN, and the University of Ghana were conducted to finalize a two-and-a-half-year project implementation plan. This project will generate evidence and knowledge, build local capacity, strengthen governance structures, and enhance policies linking biodiversity, climate, and health to prevent zoonotic spillover. Collectively, these areas of work will support local communities and decision-makers to take preventative measures for disease risk reduction that mutually support the protection of biodiversity.
