PIMS-10536 PPG Vaitupu Coastal Adaptation Project

About this project

The Project Preparation Grant (PPG) will support the development of a technically robust and approval-ready project document for the proposed Vaitupu coastal adaptation project. The preparatory process will translate the initial concept into a sequenced and prioritized portfolio of technically feasible, locally managed hybrid adaptation measures that reduce storm-wave and coastal flooding risks while enhancing biodiversity and coastal ecosystem functions. It will undertake the coastal-hazard, geomorphological, ecological, engineering, economic, social, and institutional assessments required to identify priority locations and refine the proposed combination of Berm-Top Barriers, vegetation-based stabilization, integrated coastal zone management, and improved management of locally managed marine areas. The PPG will also establish implementation and maintenance arrangements, environmental and social safeguards, gender and social inclusion measures, financing requirements, a results and monitoring framework, and mechanisms for community participation and adaptive management. Through technical studies and engagement with the Kaupule, communities, and relevant national institutions, the PPG will provide the evidence and operational arrangements required to submit a credible and implementation-ready project document for funding consideration.
