Advancing Economic Transformation Initiative in Libya

About this project

The Sustainable Economic Transformation Portfolio is a government-led, UNDP-supported initiative designed to help Libya transition from an oil-dependent economy toward a more diversified, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth model. The portfolio applies a systems-based approach that combines policy reform, institutional strengthening, investment mobilization, and place-based development to address interconnected economic challenges and unlock new opportunities for prosperity. The portfolios interventions are organized around seven mutually reinforcing areas of engagement. These include strengthening economic governance and the enabling environment to improve transparency, accountability, and institutional effectiveness; fostering new place-based economic engines that create opportunities for local development and reduce regional inequalities; and building knowledge and human capital to equip young people and institutions with the skills needed for a modern economy. The portfolio also prioritizes nature protection, environmental regeneration, and climate resilience; promotes clean energy solutions to support economic growth while reducing environmental pressures; advances digital transformation as an enabler of productivity, innovation, and service delivery; and expands sustainable finance mechanisms to mobilize investment for long-term development priorities.
