2026 Syria Regional Appeal - Syria - Protection

About this project

The Agency will conduct ERW risk education (EORE) sessions for at least 51,350 refugees, with emphasis on return areas and vulnerable groups like children. UNRWA will extend psychosocial support (PSS) to 11,360 refugees to address trauma and reduce harmful coping mechanisms, and provide legal counselling to 4,000 individuals to secure civil documentation, with referrals supported by social workers and lawyers. Additional interventions will include vocational training, awareness activities, cash assistance, and distribution of 1,500 assistive devices. These services will be delivered in part through community volunteers, with expanded community engagement via Area Protection Committees. New arrivals or returnees will be registered in UNRWA’s system and safely referred to services, while high-risk cases will be handled by social workers. Awareness on GBV and PSEA will be promoted in multipurpose centres and shelters. To strengthen protection integration in emergency services, 1,000 personnel will be trained in vulnerability assessment, disability inclusion, case management, PSEA, and other areas. Monitoring and advocacy will focus on vulnerable groups, especially those returning to newly accessible, underserved areas.
