Sustainable Aquaculture: Advancing Fish Farming in Southern Iraq

About this project

Implementing advanced fish farming techniques in both fresh and seawater can address these issues by utilizing the abundant saline water resources in the region. This approach can help diversify and stabilize fish production, ensuring a more reliable food supply. Moreover, it can create new economic opportunities, particularly for women, who are often involved in aquaculture activities but face barriers to accessing resources and training. By introducing proper policies, appropriate management methods, innovative technologies and practices, this project aims to fill the critical gap in current efforts to enhance food security and economic resilience in the southern governorates: Basra, Missan, The Qar and Muthanna. The assistance will focus on capacity building, infrastructure development, and the promotion of gender-inclusive practices to ensure that the benefits of the project are equitably distributed.
