About this project

The Desert to Power G5 Sahel Facility (DtP Facility) provides a regional approach to enable the least developed African countries of the Sahel Region to adopt a low-emission path in their cities and rural areas. • Harnessing solar potential; The DtP Facility will tap into solar energy irradiation and photovoltaic (PV) potential to increase electricity access, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and support long-term sustainable growth of the G5 Sahel countries. • Market transformation; The DtP Facility addresses financial barriers and creates an enabling environment that facilitates project funding from the private sector. Through the deployment of concessional debt for IPPs and a partial risk guarantee (PRG), the programme will enhance the bankability of solar projects in G5 Sahel countries. • The DtP Facility has the potential for its scalability and replicability in unlocking clean solar power at scale in G5 Sahel countries through on-grid solutions.
