About this project
Hardest-to-Reach (H2R) is an inclusive and innovative investment initiative to provide first-time energy access to low-income populations in the least developed countries (LDCs) in sub-Saharan Africa. • H2R aims to deliver clean and resilient energy of 120 MW installed capacity to over 54 million people on low-incomes and lacking access to modern electricity services, which are at risk of being left behind on energy access if the business-as-usual, off-grid businesses continue • It targets countries with electrification rates at or below the sub-Saharan African average (48%) and high rates of poverty (45% or above), where investors have not been willing to enter at sufficient scale to meet the energy access and climate resilience needs of underserved populations. • The programme aims to mobilize a blend of concessional and commercial finance to support off-grid solar (OGS) companies and to close the energy access gap in the target countries. • GCF’s concessional financing plays a catalytic role in implementing highly impactful solutions through private sector mobilization
