About this project
Project GAIA is a blended finance platform that will enable developing countries to access long-term financing from institutional investors for high-impact climate adaptation and mitigation projects in non-objection letter (NOL) countries. • First of its kind blended finance facility combining commercial and concessional capital, including first loss, a TA Facility, to mobilize institutional investors (e.g. pension funds) at scale for adaptation (70%). Investments will align with NDCs and NAPs with quasi-sovereign borrowers, with a target allocation of 25% for LDCs and SIDS.? • The platform will introduce a flexible complement to other sources of climate finance at the country level by providing long-term financing to borrowers in local or hard currency. It will establish a scalable, replicable template that will advance a vital paradigm shift, and unlock private sector financial support.
