About this project

The proposed GCF Project will ensure climate-resilient sustainable development in Sierra Leone by mainstreaming climate change adaptation measures and improving resilience of Sierra Leone’s communities, livelihoods, infrastructure and priority sectors to climate variability and change through a well-functioning national Multi-Hazard Impact-Based Forecasting and Early Warning System (MH-IBF-EWS). This will include having trained and equipped institutional actors in climate services value chain including Sierra Leone Meteorological Service, Hydrological Service, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Red Cross Society to collect weather and climate data; introduce and maintain modelling, forecast weather events, co-design of warning information and anticipatory response to climate-related hazards; scale-up evidence-based climate-informed decision-making, planning, and response actions countrywide. This new paradigm will focus on translating meteorological and hydrological hazards into the sector- and location-specific potential impacts for the development of sectoral responses to mitigate those impacts.
