About this project
The project addresses current and future climate change risks while improving livelihoods of agricultural communities in the three central provinces of Bolikhamxai, Khammouan, and Vientiane Capital. The project will enhance floodwater management, strengthen climate-resiliency of irrigation infrastructure, support diversification into higher-value dry season crops with market linkages, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through adoption of climate-resilient farming practices. An estimated 38,223 people will benefit from the project, of which almost half are women. The project will support the country's economic recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and from ongoing food price inflation that was intensified by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The project has three outputs: (i) floodwater harnessed and damages reduced; (ii) water reliability during droughts improved; and (iii) agrometeorological information systems modernized.
