About this project

The project development objective is to increase the production of key crops in the region through improvement of the irrigation infrastructure in Panj district. The interventions from the project will bring an additional 4,500 hectares under irrigated agriculture. The overall impact of the project is to improve the food security of Tajikistan and increase the living standards of farmers in the area. Specifically, it will help increase the agricultural production and eventually the living standards of 124,000 residents of the district. The project will achieve this through the rehabilitation of irrigation schemes to enhance access to water, and through improved water resource management. The increased production of wheat, corn and cotton would allow commercialization of agriculture in the district leading to increased sales and incomes for the farmers.
