About this project

The transition to a State-led migration and asylum response in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is an important process which has been supported by the EU since 2021. Several milestones have been reached in recent years to transfer the ownership of the mixed migration response including the management of the temporary reception centres (TRCs) to the relevant State institutions. In support of the BiH Strategy on Migration and Asylum 2021-2025 and the upcoming launch of a tripartite Interministerial Working Group on the Transition including the Ministry of Security (Mos), the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MOCA) and the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees (MHRR), BiH enters a new phase in the ongoing transition to a State-led migration response, where technical and human capacities of institutional partners and other organizations from the civil society will be critical to establishing well-defined systems and structures for the long-term management of mixed movements in BiH. The overall objective of this action is to support BiH in effectively managing migration by pursuing a comprehensive approach, including border management, reducing cross-border crime and tackling irregular migration.
