Integrated emergency response and resilience-building for flood-affected communities in northern Viet Nam

About this project

Viet Nam is enduring an unprecedented series of severe typhoons—Kajiki (#5), Bualoi (#10), and Matmo (#11)—which led to catastrophic flooding across the northern provinces. This succession of storms brought extraordinary rainfall much more severe than predicted through early warning and caused substantial loss of life, widespread destruction of homes, and devastation of livelihoods, particularly among impoverished and ethnic minority communities. Through this project, IOM in partnership with the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Viet Nam Red Cross, and provincial authorities, is addressing urgent humanitarian needs and supporting early recovery in flood-affected provinces through provision of cash assistance for immediate needs and house repairs to the most severely affected households; and conducting technical training for communities on safe house construction practices to reduce future disaster risk.
