About this project
Tropical Cyclone Maila triggered a sudden-onset humanitarian emergency across multiple provinces of Papua New Guinea, overwhelming local coping capacities and requiring urgent, coordinated lifesaving action. Through this project, IOM responds directly to these challenges by supporting a sequenced, evidence-based, Government-led emergency response during the acute post-cyclone period. The project will (i) finalize pending multi sectoral rapid needs assessments in hard to reach communities, (ii) support comprehensive damage assessments to document the full extent of cyclone impacts, (iii) deliver time bound life saving assistance based on validated assessment findings, and (iv) integrate protection measures to ensure assistance is delivered safely, accountably, and without harm.
