About this project
IOM will contribute to enhancing the protection environment and access to essential services for internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in informal settlements in Iraq through an integrated protection response. The Action will provide direct specialized protection and legal assistance to IDPs in Ninewa and Kirkuk governorates, focusing on complex cases requiring tailored support. Services will include legal counselling and representation, individual protection case management, and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response. The intervention aims to strengthen the protection capacity of affected populations and improve their access to civil documentation, legal identity, and basic services through referrals, information provision, and awareness sessions. Financial assistance in the form of cash for protection will be provided to individuals at risk of eviction or sudden displacement, directly mitigating protection risks and improving safety and stability. Implementation will follow a participatory, community-based approach to ensure inclusivity, transparency, and responsiveness to the needs of women, men, and persons with disabilities.
