About this project
Preparedness actions constantly fail to consider community level challenges and needs and do not integrate a displacement-inclusive and gender sensitive approach. Women are typically absent from the ranks of first responders within civil protection and disaster management agencies, as well as community-led groups. The lack of institutionalization of a displacement and gender-inclusive approach to multi-hazard disaster preparedness remains a breach in methodologies adopted by humanitarian organizations and government institutions This project strengthens disaster preparedness systems integrating displacement-sensitive and gender responsive dynamics into strategies and policies at subregional and national levels to inform the global level, with a focus on (peri-)urban areas of Bolivia, Colombia, Chile and Ecuador. These policies, understood as any problem-solving efforts to reach a desired state regarding disaster management (SoPs, protocols, regulations, etc), will be enhanced jointly with public authorities and communities to ensure the inclusion of vulnerable groups, especially people in different displacement situations and women, throughout the entire emergency cycle focusing on disaster preparedness.
