About this project
Montenegro's education system is experiencing rising migrant student enrolment, increasing classroom diversity while highlighting gaps in language support, psychosocial services and institutional capacity. Without coordinated, system-wide adaptation aligned with EU standards, these challenges risk deepening inequalities and weakening educational outcomes and social cohesion. The project aims to support sustainable improvements in inclusive education and migrant children's well-being through two complementary outcomes. First, the Government of Montenegro will strengthen multicultural and gender-sensitive approaches to improve migrant children's inclusion, equitable participation and education quality. This will be supported by enhanced school capacity to implement evidence-based, gender-sensitive interventions and stronger skills among teachers, school staff, government officials and parents to provide inclusive and multicultural support. Second, the project will strengthen mental health and psychosocial support within the education sector by building the culturally and gender-responsive capacities of psychologists, counsellors and educators, supported by a new Mental Health and Psychosocial Support First-Aid Guide for Teachers, and raising awareness among parents and students of peer mentorship initiatives promoting migrant children's social integration.
