About this project
Cambodia is one of the most vulnerable countries susceptible to the impacts of climate change, which pose significant risks to public health. Climate change increases the spread of vector-borne diseases, the incidence of heat stress, respiratory illnesses and other non-communicable diseases, and heightens food and water insecurity. Furthermore, the Cambodian population is a highly mobile population, with both significant internal rural-urban migration and international migration. Migrant populations, whether displaced by disasters or seeking better livelihoods, face unique health risks, including limited access to healthcare, poor sanitation and increased exposure to infectious diseases. The overall objective of this intervention is to contribute to strengthening public health preparedness and responses to climate-related emergencies, within the overall framework of the Strategic National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction. Collectively, the project outcome is for the Government of Cambodia to integrate mobility and climate change considerations into public health preparedness and disaster response plans. Activities will focus on knowledge generation, developing the capacities of key stakeholders on the nexus of climate, public health, mobility, and disaster management, and facilitating multi-sectoral collaboration in line with the One Health approach, that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems.
