About this project

The Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) provides a relocation pathway for eligible Afghan citizens who served for, or alongside, the UK Government in Afghanistan. Launched on 1 April 2021, the programme closed to new applications on 1 July 2025. Eligible principal applicants may relocate to the United Kingdom with their partners, dependent children and, where approved, additional family members. Eligibility and suitability are determined by the UK Ministry of Defence and the Home Office, respectively. Between February and December 2025, IOM supported the relocation of 2,291 beneficiaries under ARAP. During the 2026 - 2027 financial year, from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, IOM is expected to facilitate the relocation of approximately 5,500 Afghan beneficiaries to the UK. The majority expected to depart from Pakistan, while approximately 200 beneficiaries will travel from other third countries, primarily Iran and Türkiye. Through this support, IOM will contribute to safe, orderly and dignified relocation for eligible Afghans and their families.
