Refugee resettlement to the Republic of Korea

About this project

The project facilitates refugee resettlement from Thailand to the Republic of Korea (ROK) in 2026 as a durable solution. The project aims to ensure that refugees move and resettle in the Republic of Korea safely and successfully. To achieve this, selected refugees will receive pre-migration health assessments and necessary follow-up care in line with IOM protocols and ROK requirements. Health activities will follow a rights-based approach, safeguarding migrants' dignity and well-being throughout consent procedures, medical examinations, information handling, pre-embarkation checks, and any required treatment or travel health support. Moreover, refugees will be equipped with practical and cultural knowledge to support successful integration. IOM will deliver pre-departure orientation sessions focused on travel preparation and life in the ROK, while also supporting the Government of Korea's efforts. Additionally, refugees will receive safe and orderly movement assistance, including travel documentation, medical or operational escorts if needed, transportation arrangements, temporary accommodation, and in-transit health support. All activities will be implemented in close coordination with relevant government and international partners.
