About this project
This project, titled “Enhancing Resilience to Climate Change of Maritime Islands of Fiji, through solar hybrid powered water supply systems,” will transition water pumping from expensive, unreliable diesel generators to solar photovoltaic (PV) hybrid systems across seven sites. The project is a partnership between the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and WAF, directly benefiting approximately 4,900 residents in Lakeba, Rotuma, and Vanuabalavu. Key activities include final technical design, procurement of resilient solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), infrastructure installation, and comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) training for WAF staff and local operators. The diesel generators will remain as backup, ensuring resilience during major climate events.
