About this project
The production of biohydrogen from biogas using organic waste represents a viable solution for sustainable energy generation. By utilizing existing waste streams, it produces clean hydrogen fuel, thereby aligning with global efforts towards a low-carbon economy transition. However, overcoming technological, economic, and logistical challenges is essential for its widespread implementation and success. The Indonesian government, through the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), has committed to employing energy-water-food nexus approaches to foster green economic development. Within this framework, biohydrogen is considered a strategic solution to manage organic waste improperly while producing low-carbon hydrogen and fostering the regional hydrogen industry, including hydrogen mobility. Recently, GGGI has established partnerships with Korean ministries and the private sector to pilot the development of a biohydrogen ecosystem, with Indonesia participating in this partnership to assess biohydrogen's potential further. This project aims to conduct landscape analysis and pre-feasibility studies for a biohydrogen initiative. It seeks to collaborate with other initiatives, such as Korea MOTIE's R&D Grant Program for International Joint Pilot Testing Research and Korea MOE's GHG Mitigation Promotion Program.
