About this project

The ASEAN-Korea Cooperation on Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) project, implemented by GGGI and funded through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF) with a budget of USD 20M, supports Malaysia and Brunei in advancing their national methane mitigation agendas. For the two countries, the project is structured around three core outputs: Output 1 focuses on developing enabling policies and institutions for methane governance; Output 2 aims to improve the measurement of methane emissions through upgraded inventory methodologies and enhanced MMRV systems; and Output 4 promotes regional dialogue and partnership among ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea (ROK). In Malaysia, implementation is anchored through the Methane Reduction Committee (MRC), formally endorsed through the National Steering Committee on Climate Change (NSCCC) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES). In Brunei, engagement is being pursued through continuous institutional consultations, specifically with the Brunei Climate Change Office (BCCO). The project utilizes a consulting consortium that includes Seoul National University and technical firm Weatherpia, drawing upon their international expertise to deliver gap analysis reports, capacity-building programs, and methane reduction planning support tailored to each country's national context and policy priorities.
