About this project

The project aims to develop through a consultative process involving a diverse range of stakeholders an evidenced-based Carbon Trading Policy that will clearly set out what the Solomon Islands would like to achieve from improving its access to and participation in high-quality, high-integrity international carbon trading and will establish a broad framework for action to move in that direction. The project consists of four key activities:  Activity 1: Assess the current capacity and readiness of the Solomon Islands, including those from disadvantaged and marginalised groups, to access international carbon markets and participate in carbon trading (specifically the sale of carbon credits) through both the Article 6 mechanism and through Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM).  Activity 2: Provide training to members of the project steering committee to enable them to make informed decisions needed to develop and implement a carbon trading policy.  Activity 3: Develop recommendations on the Institutional and Governance structures and processes to enable and support carbon trading (through Article 6 and Voluntary Carbon Markets) in the Solomon Islands.  Activity 4: Develop a Carbon Trading Policy for the Solomon Islands that is gender responsive.
