About this project
Tonga faces severe climate change impacts, including rising sea levels, changing rainfall patterns, and more intense tropical cyclones. These issues negatively affect the nation's development and the livelihoods of its citizens. Although the government invests significantly in climate mitigation and resilience using public finances, it requires substantial external support for financing, capacity building, and technology investments. Despite having various policy instruments in place, Tonga has struggled to secure the necessary climate financing to transition to a low-emissions economy, particularly for sustainable energy and transport, and to build stronger adaptation and resilience across all sectors. This project is designed to bridge this gap, ensuring the country can effectively attract and utilize global climate funds to secure its future.
