About this project

Building on the successful implementation of LECRD Phase 1 in Vanuatu under project VU14, which established the foundation for fuel and vehicle standards adoption by the Government of Vanuatu , Phase 2 of the LECRD program will shift its focus to developing and implementing the necessary legislative and regulatory frameworks. In Vanuatu, LECRD Phase 2 w ill also provide crucial implementation assistance to help ensure effective enforcement of the two policies established in Phase 1. LECRD Phase 2 in Vanuatu (“The Project”) aims to establish the regulatory framework for vehicle emission standards and fuel standards , including its operationalization and targeted implementation support through capacity building and technical assistance (i.e. , standard operational procedures ( SOPs ) ) . To support the government, t h e Project will establish a dedicated team to work with the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC ), the Ministry of Public Utilities and Infrastructure (MIPU) , and the State Law Office to make the necessary legislative changes to the Vehicle Imports Control Act, CAP221.
