SANté: Food Security and Nutrition in Burkina Faso

About this project

The project "SANté: Food Security and Nutrition in Burkina Faso," lasting 36 months, aims to contribute to reducing food and nutritional insecurity in the Boulmiougou Health District, Central Region. It ensures safe and stable access to a varied and nutrient-rich diet for the local population, particularly pregnant and lactating women and children under five years old, making the environment-nutrition-health nexus concrete. The increase in population (the area is a destination for internally displaced people), rising food prices, low processing of local products, and the decrease in pastures and cultivable land are the origin of a condition of food insecurity, caused by a diet lacking in nutrients and diversity, inadequate feeding practices for infants and children under five, and poor access to sanitation services. Therefore, to address the multiple food and nutritional needs, this initiative will support the most vulnerable population of the Boulmiougou Health District through targeted actions in the rural villages of Tanghin-Dassouri, Komki-Ipala, and Komsilga and the non lotis (informal settlements) of Ouagadougou.
