About this project

Securing access to natural resources that are critical for the Dutch and European industries remains an important national interest and that an investment in efforts to stabilize a restive part of the world are necessary if access to certain critical minerals is to be guaranteed. A large portion of the artisanal minerals produced in Eastern DRC is exported illegally, which fuels corruption and conflict and contributes to instability in the DRC and in the Great Lakes region. For past 4 years, Madini I has been at the forefront of countering some of these nefarious practices of the shadow economy. Madini Phase II will focus on artisanal mining to contribute to local, provincial, and national stability and development. The project will remain focused on the 3TG sector in Ituri and South Kivu with extensive advocacy work.
