Pre-Feasibility Study for Improving Municipal Waste Management in Two Cities of Bangladesh Project

About this project

Bangladesh's waste management systems are severely hampered by inadequate collection, uncontrolled dumping and, critically, absence of proper processing infrastructure. This reduces the overall effectiveness of even existing collection efforts and creates environmental and public health hazards and economic losses through obstruction of drainage systems adding to waterlogging, catastrophic flooding. The pre-feasibility study will evaluate municipal solid waste management in two cities. The project aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing waste management and develop integrated, financially sustainable and circular solid waste systems. While the study covers the entire waste value chain, its ultimate goal is to generate bankable proposals for large-scale waste processing facilities under PPP modality. This would help to maximise waste collection efforts, recovery of recyclables, organics and other waste streams and minimise landfill disposal and environmental impacts.
